Joseph Furbish

Joseph, was the second son of Stephen and Catherine Furbish. He was born in Eliot, Maine on 26 February 1805, and died there on 6 August 1886.

Joseph married Hannah Wadleigh, the daughter of Ebenezer and Love (Huntriss) Wadleigh on 12 January 1834. Hannah died 9 January 1845, eight days after giving birth to her fifth child, only son Charles William Furbish.

Joseph remarried on 22 December 1845, his second wife was Caroline Greenleaf Baker, daughter of Thomas and Nancy (Lord) Baker of Portland, Maine. Caroline was born 20 June 1819, and died on 4 January 1896.

The family lived in Eliot, Maine where Joseph was a farmer and a carpenter. His wife Caroline was a school teacher and published author. She also had an interest in genealogy and published a history of the Baker family in the Maine Historical and Genealogy Recorder.




Children of Joseph Furbish and Hannah Wadleigh:

i. Elizabeth Furbish, was born on 28 April 1835 in Eliot, Maine.
Elizabeth married Charles Washington Jenkins on 4 June 1861.
Charles was born 2 November 1837 in Boston, Massachusetts.
 
ii. Hannah Jane Furbish, was born 5 April 1837 and died July 1922 in Merrimack, New Hampshire.
Hannah married:
(1) Harrison Whitehouse, 10 September 1862 in South Berwick, Maine.
(2) Albert Shapleigh, 18 June 1873.
Albert was born 12 December 1843, and he died on 15 April 1915 in Chelsea, Mass.
 
iii. Martha Ann Furbish, was born 9 March 1839 in Eliot, Maine.
Martha married Isaac C. Pingre of Haverhill, Massachusetts.
 
iv. Charlotte Ham Furbish, was born 1 July 1842.
Charlotte married Wiley F. Johnson 6 May 1873.
Wiley was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts.
 
v. Charles William Furbish, was born 1 January 1845, and he died 20 September 1845.
 




Children of Joseph Furbish and Caroline Greenleaf Baker:

vi. Joseph Hall Furbish, was born 17 March 1847 in Eliot, Maine, he died September 1914 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. 
Joseph married Emma M. Grant, the third daughter of Sedley and Lucretia (Merchant) Grant on 1 September 1870.
Emma was born in August 1846. 
 
vii. Frederick Baker Furbish, was born 21 January 1849 in Eliot, Maine, he died 19 June 1918 in Medford, Massachusetts. 
Frederick married Sarah Lucretia Grant, the fourth daughter of Sedley and Lucretia (Merchant) Grant on 29 September 1872 in Eliot, Maine.
Sarah, was born in South Berwick, Maine on 13 February 1853 and she died 3 December 1897.
 
viii. Francis Emily Furbish, was born on 24 March 1851 in Eliot, Maine.
Francis married Calvin Webster Brickett on 12 October 1876.
 
ix. Howard Bartlett Furbish, was born on 18 July 1853 in Eliot, Maine, he died on 28 December 1912 in South Berwick, Maine.
Howard married:
(1) Minnie Clifford Grant, the fifth daughter of Sedley and Lucretia (Merchant) Grant on 8 December 1873.
Minnie was born on 10 November 1855 in South Berwick, Maine and she died 28 April 1879.
(2) Mabel Cecelia Grant, the sixth daughter of Sedley and Lucretia (Merchant) Grant on 24 October 1883 in Dover, New Hampshire.
Mabel was born on 15 September 1862 in South Berwick, Maine.
 
x. Charles Fremont Furbish, was born 27 November 1855 in Eliot, Maine, and he died 5 July 1916 in Dover, N. H.
Charles married Lizzie R. Butler on 27 November 1873.
Lizzie was born in May 1857 in Dover, New Hampshire. 
 
xi. Carrie Augusta Furbish, was born 5 April 1858 in Eliot, Maine, and died 4 May 1902 in Chester, New Hampshire.
Carrie married Charles Smith Johns on 12 September 1889.
 
xii. Effie Louise Furbish, was born 8 October 1860.
Effie married Stephen R. Bartlett on 11 November 1891.
 
xiii. George Hartley Furbish, was born 18 February 1863 in Eliot, Maine.
George married Ruth Edna Young on 27 September 1884.
Ruth was born 1865 in Barrington, New Hampshire.
