COASTS OVER
35-FOOT CLIFF
Boy, 17 Seriously Hurt
in Malden
David Furbush, 17, 58 Roberts
st.,
Malden, received serious head
and
back injuries last
night when he
coasted off the edge of
a 35-foot
cliff in the Linden
section of that
city and landed on
the Newbury-
port Turnpike, narrowly
escaping
further injuries from passing
auto-
mobiles.
Police said that
Furbush, who is
living with his guardians,
Mr. and
Mrs. Robert C. Burt, was coasting
with Robert Burt, Jr., 9,
when he
failed to stop on
a flat piece of
land at the
top of the cliff and
went over head first
on the sled.
He cleared several; sharp
jutting
pieces of ledge on the
way down
and hit the curbing
of the dirt
sidewalk, falling on his
face onto
the cement.
Attempting to go
down the cliff
to help him, the Burt
boy slipped
on the icy slide and was bruised on
his arms and back in the
fall. Fur-
bush was taken to Malden Hospital
by police. He is a junior at Malden
High School and a member
of the
rifle team.
