What A Friend We Have In Jesus!

This old familiar song has been sung hundreds of times by many, yet it still more than adequately expresses an account of the blessings we have in Jesus. Not only a friend in Jesus but a helper, a strength to call upon when we are weak, too weak to carry the burden alone.

What other friend do we have that we can turn to expecting him to see our every weakness yet love us and shield us from harm, give us solace and encouragement? Other friends may despise us and forsake us when we show our weaker side, but not Jesus. He is always there ready to listen to us, to encourage us.

Jesus is no "fair-weather" friend that shares our better times but walks away from us when we have an abundance of trials and temptations and grief. More than all this He lifts us up when we stumble and fail Him, encourages us to try again, forgives us our wrongs.

John 15:13 tells us, "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends."(NIV) Jesus proved He was and is our good friend when He lay down His life for us as a sacrifice for our sins that we may have the hope of being reconciled to God and living eternally in a blissful heaven. If we are Jesus' friends we will follow Him in whatever He leads us to do. John 15:14 reminds us, "You are my friends if you do what I command." (NIV)
